Licence troubleshooting
What each licence error means and how to fix it.
The console's setup screen and GET /v1/status show why a licence was refused. Every refusal is also in the audit
log as system.licence_rejected.

missing | No licence installed yet | Request and install one |
malformed | The file is not a 3AM licence (wrong file, truncated, or edited JSON) | Install the original file as received |
bad_signature | The licence was changed after 3AM signed it, or wasn't issued by 3AM | Install the original file; never edit it |
not_yet_valid | Its validity starts later (not_before) | Wait, or check the server's clock |
expired | Past expires_at plus the grace period | Install a renewed licence |
wrong_install | Issued for a different install fingerprint | Check the fingerprint (it changes on a new server or cluster) and ask for a re-issue |
no_key | A build without 3AM's licence key | Use the official bundle or images |
Checking the clock
Licences and the audit log both depend on the clock. 3am-core preflight shows the server's UTC time. Keep servers on
NTP.
A pack is refused
packs list shows fewer packs than expected? The audit log event config.packs_loaded says why for each one:
- issued to another customer: the pack was sealed for a different licence;
- the licence does not include pack X: ask for it to be added;
- signature invalid: the file was damaged or altered; copy it again from the bundle.
