macOS (evaluation)

Run 3AM on a Mac for evaluations and demos.

For evaluation

Run production on Linux or Kubernetes. A Mac is fine for trying 3AM, demos and workshops. These steps are documented but not yet part of 3AM's certification runs.

1. Install Podman (or Docker Desktop)

brew install podman
podman machine init --cpus 4 --memory 8192 --disk-size 60
podman machine start
podman info --format '{{.Host.Arch}}'

Docker Desktop also works. Give it at least 4 CPUs and 8 GB of memory in Settings → Resources.

2. Verify and unpack the bundle

shasum -a 256 3am-0.1.0.tar # compare with the hash 3AM sent you
tar -xf 3am-0.1.0.tar && cd 3am-0.1.0

3. Run the installer

./install.sh

The installer is written for the bash that ships with macOS. Two Mac-specific notes:

  • Licence fingerprint. macOS has no /etc/machine-id, so the installer warns that it can't read one. Evaluation licences for Macs are issued for any install. Ask for an evaluation licence when you request it.
  • Apple silicon. 3AM's images are built for x86-64 (amd64). On Apple silicon, Podman and Docker run them under emulation: fine for an evaluation, noticeably slower than on a Linux server.

Then open http://127.0.0.1:8700 and sign in with the admin token the installer printed.

Next

Install the licence, then connect your tools in the setup wizard.
