# Start a trial

> A free 30-day trial for your company, with the code sent to your work email. One trial per company, shared by everyone there, on up to 10 installs.

3AM is an on-prem AI on-call engineer for regulated enterprises (https://3am.si).

Anyone can start a trial. It runs for 30 days and covers everything 3AM does, on up to 50 services and up to 10
installs.

## Get the code

There are two ways, and both ask the same few questions:

* **On the website:** fill in [Book a demo](https://3am.si/demo). The trial code arrives by email straight away, and an
  engineer gets in touch about the demo.
* **From the server you'll install on:**

  ```bash
  curl -fsSL https://get.3am.si/install | sh -s -- --trial
  ```

  It asks the questions in the terminal, emails you the code, and waits for you to paste it in. Then it installs 3AM
  with the trial already in place.

Use your work email. The code only ever goes to that inbox, which is how we know you're at the company. Gmail,
Outlook.com and other free or throwaway addresses aren't accepted.

## One trial per company

A company is known by its email domain, so `priya@bank.com` and `tom@eu.bank.com` are the same company.

* **If a colleague has already asked,** you get the same code by email. The email says whether the trial has
  started and how long it has left.
* **If your company's trial has ended,** you get a note instead of a new code, and we get in touch. Trials can't be
  renewed, but we can set up a longer pilot.

## The 30 days

They start the first time the code is used on an install, not when it's emailed. An unused code works for 60 days.

The code goes on every install you want covered, up to 10, and they all share one licence. The installs are added
as each one uses the code, and every install learns of the others at its next check with 3AM. The trial ends at the
same moment on all of them.

The limits are:

* **50 services.** A trial has no allowance past the limit. The 51st service's alerts are recorded, not
  investigated.
* **10 installs**, with [Keychain](https://docs.3am.si/licensing/keychain) included, so one install can set up the others.
* **No grace period.**

## When it ends

Within five minutes of the end, every install goes back to [setup mode](https://docs.3am.si/licensing#without-a-valid-licence):

* **3AM stops:** no connectors run, nothing is watched and nothing changes.
* **Nothing is lost:** your connections, history and audit log are kept.

Install a paid licence and 3AM carries on where it stopped. A paid licence is a new licence for the same
organisation, so your packs keep working.

## Using the code by hand

A code you already have works in three places:

| Where         | How                                                                                                                       |
| ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The installer | `curl -fsSL https://get.3am.si/install \| sh -s -- --code 3AM-TRIAL-…`. 3AM starts the trial on its first start           |
| The console | **Settings → Licence → Redeem a trial code**, or the licence step of setup |
| Offline | [warden.3am.si/redeem](https://warden.3am.si/redeem) with the install's fingerprint, then upload the licence it gives you |
