# Connections

> Everything 3AM reads, acts through and asks for approval on, tested at any time.

3AM is an on-prem AI on-call engineer for regulated enterprises (https://3am.si).

**Connections** lists every connector with its kind, what it's used for, where it's managed (the console or a
configuration file) and its status. Connections with a problem are listed first, with the problem they reported.

| To | Do |

| Add one | **Add a connection**, choose the kind, fill in the form, **Test connection**, then **Save**. The test shows what 3AM found before anything is saved |
| Check one | **Test** runs its health check now |
| Change one | **Edit**. Secrets you leave blank are kept |
| Remove one | **Remove**. Its stored secrets are deleted with it |

Changes take effect at once: 3AM rebuilds its connections, and an investigation already under way finishes with
the connections it started with. An approval channel you connect joins the approval escalation, and one you remove
leaves it ([Settings](https://docs.3am.si/console/settings)).

Connections defined in a configuration file are read-only here ([Configuration files](https://docs.3am.si/install/configuration-files)).
Secrets typed in the console are stored in files only 3AM can read, and are never shown again.

**SSH, without a terminal:** for a server connection, the form generates 3AM's key and shows the exact
`authorized_keys` line to add (restricted to the 3AM gate). It also reads the server's host key so you can pin it
([Servers](https://docs.3am.si/connectors/servers)).

Each connector's settings and the access it needs are in its guide under [Connectors](https://docs.3am.si/connectors).
